About Us

Formed in 2002, the DuPage County Green Party (DCGP) is one of only three "established" political parties in DuPage County, and is the only one that places voluntary limits on its fundraising by not accepting corporate campaign contributions. An affiliated local of the Illinois Green Party, the DuPage Greens is 100% people-powered, relying on volunteerism and small contributions to fuel its mission of making government more fair, accountable, efficient and productive.

In 2006, the DuPage Greens supported the gubernatorial candidacy of Rich Whitney, who earned 10% of the vote in the county -- amazingly successful for a candidacy that was essentially limited to two months by our Democratic opponents.

Building on the success of the Whitney campaign, the DCGP held its first ever primary and ran a number of candidates for the 2008 general election, including our first ever candidates for U.S. Congress, State Senate, State Representative, and County Board. Many of our candidates repeated Whitney's success by exeeding expectations.

In 2009, the DuPage Greens ran one candidate in the off-year elections: Steve Alesch, for Winfield Township Trustee. Alesch came in fifth, but nonetheless picked up votes from a high percentage of voters (25%).

The DuPage Greens are now working on increasing our visibility ahead of the 2010 elections. In June 2009, we are launching the Social Justice in DuPage Series, which will focus on a range issues affecting our community. We will once again have a table at the 2009 DuPage County Fair, and we will participate in a number of other parades and community events.

This is a critical year for us. To maintain our status as an "established" party for another four years, our gubernatorial candidate must receive 5% of the vote in the 2010 general election. It's going to take a lot of work to get us there, and we need your help. Whether by getting involved in your local party or campaign, supporting us at events, making a donation, or even just casting your vote for us on election day, your support can make all the difference.
